Happy Mid-Autumn 2020

FIS hosted our annual Mid-Autumn Festival on October 1st filled with joy and laughter.

All grades joined together in the morning lantern parade wearing beautifully colored Ao Dai . Students shared their lantern creations and felt the warmth of tradition. During our morning assembly, we enjoyed performances from professional dragon dancers and were marveled by their skills. Our 5th graders performed Vietnam’s famous legend “The Moon Boy.”

After the entertainment, all classes participated in a fruit arranging competition. Four students from each grade collaborated on a fruit arrangement using their creativity. 1st grade and Kindergarten were the winners! During our break time, the entire school enjoyed moon cakes and took many photos with friends, teachers, and staff. We even took photos by Ao Dai color!

The “FIS Dragon Dance Competition” proved to be quite the show stopper. Mr. Thanh taught our little dragons extremely well. We concluded the day with a mini trivia about Vietnamese culture. Our students displayed their knowledge and cheered for each other for doing a great job!

Kinder had a meaningful discourse about the devastating situation in the Northern part of Vietnam which was caused by the recent typhoon Yagi. Kinder students taught how to stay safe from severe winds by "staying together" and seeking a sturdy shelter during a tornado. Kinder captains expressed their sympathy by thinking of sending food and money to help the affected people. This social studies session ended with a grateful heart for having a better situation here in Ho Chi Minh City and aiming to plant more trees to prevent flooding.

The Grade 4 and 5 students embraced the rich tradition of mooncake-making for the Mid-Autumn Festival!

The Grade 4 and 5 students embraced the rich tradition of mooncake-making for the Mid-Autumn Festival! In ancient times, these delicious treats were made as an offering to the moon. It also means unity and prosperity. Today, our students continue this tradition, learning both the skill and the cultural meaning behind every mooncake. We are so thankful to and proud of Chef Quoc Anh who taught the rudiments of making mooncakes.

In a delightful fusion of culture and learning

In a delightful fusion of culture and learning, our kindergarten captains took a culinary journey with the school's chef to prepare for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival. With tiny hands and big smiles, they learned the basic steps of crafting traditional mooncakes. Guided by the chef, the Kindergarteners mixed ingredients, shaped dough, and filled their creations with a salted egg yolk. Their mooncakes are not only a tasty reward but also a heartfelt celebration of culture, making this Mid-Autumn Festival truly unforgettable for these young chefs.

This morning’s fire drill was amazingly successful.

Hear the alarm, leave your things, head outside! This morning’s fire drill was amazingly successful. It took 2 minutes and 21 seconds for everyone to be in their place at the playground. This is a quick and efficient response to an emergency. Thank you everyone for the commitment to following directions, safety, and working towards familiarity of procedures.
