GRADE 2 HALLOWEEN PIÑATA TRICK-OR-TREAT BAGS
01/11/2023
Grade 2 loves to show off our creative sides! For our Halloween event on the 31st of October, students spent two days creating Piñata bags to hold their candy. They learned about the history behind trick-or-treating, and how piñatas are used in Latin America to hold candy. Our clever students had lots of fun cutting out shapes to make faces that were both spooky and adorable! Amazing work, Grade 2!

For a STEAM lesson, the 5th Graders did an Egg Drop activity. The groups found many natural materials to prevent a raw egg from breaking when they drop the container from the first floor to the ground floor. Discussions included the concepts of collision, force, inertia, energy, etc. The egg of the group that used soil to cushion it did not break. The egg of the other group that used leaves and twigs broke.
"How does a plant get what it needs?

"How does a plant get what it needs?" and "Can leaves really drink water?" were some of the fascinating questions that the little kinder captains had while learning about plants. The Kinder Captains recently conducted a 24-hour experiment on how plants drink water by immersing cabbage and mustard veggies in colored water. They also conducted a "Blooming Flower" experiment to gain a better understanding of what plants require. Those STEAM activities were excellent visual aids for our kindergarten students to learn how plants absorb water in order to develop and bloom.

The 5th Graders had a great time doing a STEAM lesson.

The 5th Graders had a great time doing a STEAM lesson. First, we created our own airplanes and tried to fly them. We measured how far the paper airplanes went. Then we discussed what makes an airplane fly by considering the 4 forces of thrust, gravity, drag, and lift. Then we fixed and recreated our airplanes according to a proper engineering process-- ask, imagine, plan, create, experiment, and improve. Finally, we wrote about our projects. We also published our expository text about our activity.
